Gentian root is a classic bitter herb and has long been a central ingredient in ?Bitters? formulae. Gentian is a bitter, gastric stimulant, sialagogue ? stimulates the salivary glands, cholagogue ? stimulates the gall bladder, emmenagogue ? stimulates the uterus and liver tonic.
